Privacy policy

BrainBuilder² is an AI study tutor for kids, set up and supervised by their parents. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the controls you have. The short version: we collect only what tutoring needs, parents can read everything their kids do here, we show no ads, and we sell nothing.

What we collect

From parents: your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider; we never see the password itself), your display name, and your household’s settings.

From learners: a first name, a grade level, whether they do school at a school, at home, or some of each (and, if a parent adds it, what they call the parent who teaches them), their tutoring conversations (text and dictated voice turned into text), photos of schoolwork they choose to share, and the learning notes the tutor keeps between sessions (what was worked on, wins, and how they learn best). Learners sign in with a PIN on a device a parent has approved. They have no email address or password with us.

Voice: when a learner uses the microphone, the audio clip is transcribed to text and the audio is discarded. We store the text, never the recording.

How AI is involved

The tutor runs on AI services: Anthropic (the tutoring conversation) and OpenAI (voice transcription). Tutoring messages, shared schoolwork photos, and the learner’s first name, grade, and how they do school are sent to these providers solely to run each session. Under our agreements with them, neither provider uses this data to train their models. A parent explicitly consents to this processing before any tutoring session can start, while setting up the household or later, and can withdraw that consent anytime in Controls, which immediately blocks new tutoring sessions.

Children’s privacy

Learners are children, and the whole design starts there. A parent creates the account, consents to AI processing, approves every device a child signs in from, and can read every transcript of every session in full. The tutor also keeps a shorter set of learning notes between sessions, what was worked on, wins, how the learner likes things explained. Personal things a child shares stay in the transcript a parent can read, but they are kept out of those learning notes; the tutor is not building a diary on your child. If a session raises something a parent should know about, it is flagged as an alert on the parent’s dashboard, not hidden. We never show children ads, never sell their data, and collect no more than tutoring requires.

What we don’t do

No advertising. No selling or renting data. No third-party analytics or tracking pixels. No social features exposing your child to strangers. No data collection beyond what this policy lists.

Where data lives and how long

Data is stored with our infrastructure providers (Supabase and Vercel) in the United States, protected by per-household access controls. We keep it for as long as your account exists.

Deleting your data

Any parent can delete their account in Household settings. If you are the last parent in the household, this permanently deletes the household and everything in it: every learner, transcript, note, and win. This is immediate and cannot be undone. You can also email us (below) and we will do it for you.

Changes and contact
